  The aim of this module is to acquire expertise in supporting teachers in their subject based PLCs.

  • Understand how PLCs work online
  • Know how to assist teachers to form subject PLCs online
  • Be able to support teachers in their online subject PLCs.

  Read page 75 of your course manual which gives you an introduction to PLCs and then provides some background on how PLCs work online. Thereafter, reflect on the following in your private journal:

  • Reflect on your teachers and how you envisage them forming PLCs and what it is that would bring them together
  • Elaborate on how you would see them learning from each other.

  How to create and maintain PLCs

  Together with the information found on page 76 of your course manual, review the following internet resources which give their take on how to create and maintain PLCs.

  • Create a group for your teachers - this must be subject specific
    
  • This can be on any platform e.g. WhatsApp, Moodle forum discussion, Google Classroom
    
  • Introduce a conversation where you assist them with a particular concept that you have identified that they need help with
    
  • Moderate the discussion ensuring that all the members participate and that communication is conducted in a respectful yet constructive manner
    
  • There should be a time limit for the discussion
    
  • Record your observations and takeaways in a document
    
  • These observations should include:
    
  • What worked
    
  • What didn't work
    
  • What could you change for the outcome to be more effective?
    
  • Did the teachers benefit from the discussion? What was their feedback?
    
  • Would you use this format again?
