Review the module 5 resources below.
Types of assessmentsAssessment of learning is usually the final phase of lesson delivery but, in all honesty, it should happen before (diagnostic), during (formative) and after (summative) the learning takes place. eAssessments use digital technology or ICTs to assess the learners in these diagnostic, formative and summative phases.
Watch the introductory video below which explains the notion of eAssessments very clearly.
eAssessment formatseAssessments can take on a variety of formats - below are just some examples taken from the Moodle LMS which shows the flexibility on the types of questions that eAssessments can offer:
Advantages of using eAssessments
Creating multiple choice questions
For this training session, we will focus on the use of online multiple choice questions. This is an easy, quick and accurate method of assessment to determine whether learning has been achieved by the students.
Review your course manual which delves into the details of how a multiple choice question should be composed and the criteria which should be adhered to when setting multiple choice questions (pages 4 - 7 of the Module 5 course manual).
Some online assessment tools
There are a range of online assessment tools available e.g. Google Classroom, Moodle, Kahoot etc....
Have a look at what is available by accessing this link and by watching the short video below.
Activity 5.1 (ePortfolio)Having reviewed various online assessment tools on offer, select one and do the following:
- Create a multiple choice quiz for a diagnostic assessment on a topic / concept within your subject
- The quiz should contain five questions
- Explain how this assessment will help prepare the learners for the lesson.
Copy the hyperlink of your multiple choice quiz which you have created and insert this link into the assignment quiz below. Move on to the next question in order to include your explanation.Assessment analysis capabilities
We will discuss three tools which can be used to assess the following quality and effectiveness of assessment practices:
- Teacher collection and analysis of learner assessments
- Learners self-assessments
- Tracking of assessments.
1: Analysis of learner assessments
Who is responsible for what? So, now that we have established learners' achievements (or lack thereof), who is responsible for which part of the action plan?
2: Learner's self assessment
Using the same levels and colour coding as in the previous section, review the following:
Who is responsible for what?
3: Tracking of assessmentsAgain, using the same levels and colour coding, review the following table:
Who is responsible for what? All three of the above steps must be linked to the following documents:
- The subject improvement plan
- The school improvement plan (SIP)
- The performance dashboard
- The data warehouse.
